Because copper is a premium material, we don't trust cardboard. Every Archaic Metal cap is secured inside a custom-built, heat-treated wood crate. This prevents dents and 'fret marks' during transit. Your order is fully insured and shipped via heavy-duty freight to ensure it arrives in 'New Penny' condition.

Please note: Large caps ship via LTL Freight. If your property cannot accommodate a full-sized 18-wheeler, please let us know so we can arrange a terminal pickup or a smaller delivery truck.

Shipping

Large caps ship via LTL freight in a custom-built, heat-treated wood crate, fully insured. I need your exact dimensions, address type (residential or commercial), and zip code before you order. Call or text (text is best) (609) 352-9840 to receive a custom freight quote. LTL freight means your order will arrive on a full-size tractor-trailer. The driver will bring the crate to the back of the truck with liftgate service — curbside delivery. You are responsible for getting it up your driveway from there. Delivery add-ons are available if needed. If your property can't accommodate a full-size freight truck or you don't have help moving the crate from the curb, I can arrange delivery add-ons for the freight company to move the crate to a designated area on or inside your property. Terminal pickup and smaller delivery vehicle options are also available. This way it arrives the way it left my shop — in perfect condition.

How to Order Full Size Caps

Select your approximate chimney width and approximate chimney length using the size selectors above. Your cap will be custom fabricated to your exact dimensions — add a minimum of 1/4" to your measurements for proper fit.

Contact me with your chimney dimensions and zip code before purchasing and I'll confirm sizing and provide an exact shipping quote. Lead time is 3–4 weeks from measurement confirmation.

Have a Wood-Framed Chase?

If your chimney sits on a prefab wood-framed chase, you'll need a chase cover in addition to this cap. The cap mounts on top of the chase cover — it does not have a flat bottom with pre-cut holes for your flue pipe(s). If there's currently no metal cover on your chase, you need both. A Top Vent Cap Built for Chimneys That Demand More

The Crown Top Vent is the most architecturally assertive cap I build. It carries the same curved panel body as my standard Top Vent — concave panels that follow the line of the cap from base to crown — but adds a prominent stepped crown section on top that reads from the street. If you want a chimney cap that looks intentional from every angle, this is the one.

I hand-fabricate every Crown Top Vent to your exact flue dimensions in my shop in Berlin, NJ. No stock sizes, no catalog numbers — every cap is built for the chimney it's going on. The stepped crown, the panel curves, the expanded metal screen, the base collar: all of it is cut, formed, and assembled by hand.

What Sets the Crown Top Vent Apart

  • Stepped crown section — the raised, tiered crown gives this cap a formal architectural profile that a standard flat-top or hip-top cap can't match
  • Curved panel body — concave panels run from the base flange up to the crown, adding depth and shadow line to the silhouette
  • Expanded metal screen — all four sides of the vent section are screened to keep birds, debris, and downdrafts out while allowing full exhaust flow
  • Custom-sized to your flue — send me your flue opening dimensions and I'll build the cap to fit
  • Available in three materials — 16oz copper, Kynar-coated aluminum, or Galvalume

Why an Extended Height Cap

Building code requires a chimney to extend at least two feet above any roof surface, ridge, or obstruction within ten feet of it. When a chimney falls short of that, a masonry extension means hiring a mason to add courses of brick — expensive, disruptive, and often overkill. An extended height chimney cap adds the needed height directly to the flue without touching the masonry crown. It functions the same way chimney pots did in the 18th century: extend the effective height, improve draft, solve the problem.

Height problems also cause downdraft. If smoke is backing up into the house when the wind picks up, a chimney that doesn't clear surrounding roof lines is often the reason. Adding height fixes it without a service call.

Installation

The Custom Crown Top Vent Chimney Cap installs one of two ways depending on your chimney. Crown-sit places the cap directly on the chimney crown — no masonry work required. Side-mount uses a drip edge detail fastened through the side of the chimney masonry for a more permanent attachment. No pitch-matching, no friction-dependent flue clamps. The cap fastens to the chimney and stays put.

Material Options

16oz Copper — warm penny tone new, weathering through browns to a natural patina over years. The most durable and visually distinctive option. Riveted construction with copper rivets and solid brass mandrels.

Kynar-Coated Aluminum — factory-applied PVDF coating that holds color without fading, chalking, or peeling. Available in a wide range of Kynar colors including black, copper tone, bronze, and more. Riveted construction with stainless steel color-match rivets. A long-lasting, low-maintenance option for any color palette.

Galvalume — zinc-aluminum alloy coating over steel. Strong corrosion resistance at an accessible price point. Mill-finish appearance. Riveted construction with stainless steel color-match rivets.

About Archaic Metal

I've been fabricating custom architectural sheet metal in South Jersey since 1994 — 32 years working copper, Kynar aluminum, Galvalume, and stainless steel by hand. Every cap that leaves my shop I built myself. If you have questions about your chimney or which cap is the right fit, message me or call.
