Material For Full Size Caps
16 oz copper develops a natural verdigris patina over time. Kynar aluminum holds color indefinitely — any Kynar 500 color available. Galvalume is the most economical option. Stainless steel is ideal for coastal or high-corrosion environments.
Mount Type
Not sure which mount type you need? Top Mount vs Side Mount — Which One Do You Need?
Drip Edge Height
The drip edge is the vertical skirt that wraps the outside of your chimney. 3" is standard and fits most chimneys. Choose taller if your chimney crown has a wide ledge or step that needs to be covered.
Lid Option
Closed lid — solid removable lid for maintenance/cleaning and comes with expanded screen/mesh in the base of chimney. Standard for active chimneys. Open top — no lid, no screen in base. For decorative chimneys, gas inserts with external venting, Shroud type.
Screen Height
8" is standard. Choose 10" or 12" for chimneys with tall flue tile above the crown, or when extra clearance is needed (cap height is 28" with 8" standard screen). Copper caps use stainless steel expanded mesh. Kynar, Galvalume, and SS caps use aluminum mesh.
Chimney Dimensions
Measure the outside of the chimney at the crown — not the flue tile. Width is always the shorter dimension. Add at least ¼" to each measurement for fit. Example: 24" × 30" chimney → enter 24¼" × 30¼".
Width (shortest)
Length (longest)

Add minimum ¼" to each measurement. Width must be ≤ Length. Max size 60" × 120".

Shipping

Because copper is a premium material, we don't trust cardboard. Every Archaic Metal cap is secured inside a custom-built, heat-treated wood crate. This prevents dents and 'fret marks' during transit. Your order is fully insured and shipped via heavy-duty freight to ensure it arrives in 'New Penny' condition.

Please note: Large caps ship via LTL Freight. If your property cannot accommodate a full-sized 18-wheeler, please let us know so we can arrange a terminal pickup or a smaller delivery truck.

Shipping

Large caps ship via LTL freight in a custom-built, heat-treated wood crate, fully insured. I need your exact dimensions, address type (residential or commercial), and zip code before you order. Call or text (text is best) (609) 352-9840 to receive a custom freight quote. LTL freight means your order will arrive on a full-size tractor-trailer. The driver will bring the crate to the back of the truck with liftgate service — curbside delivery. You are responsible for getting it up your driveway from there. Delivery add-ons are available if needed. If your property can't accommodate a full-size freight truck or you don't have help moving the crate from the curb, I can arrange delivery add-ons for the freight company to move the crate to a designated area on or inside your property. Terminal pickup and smaller delivery vehicle options are also available. This way it arrives the way it left my shop — in perfect condition.

Have a Wood-Framed Chase?

If your chimney sits on a prefab wood-framed chase, you might need a chase cover in addition to this cap. The cap mounts on top of the chase cover — it does not have a flat bottom with pre-cut holes for your flue pipe(s). If there's currently no metal cover on your chase, you need both. The Custom Curved Panel Copper Chimney Cap

The curved panel is the most common architectural chimney cap profile I build — a gentle convex curve on each panel face, a hip roof on top, and a full-perimeter spark screen between them. It reads as classic without calling attention to itself. Works on brick, stone, stucco, and painted block chimneys alike. If you want a cap that looks like it was always supposed to be there, this is it.

Every cap is hand-fabricated to your exact chimney dimensions in my shop in Berlin, NJ. The panel curves, the hip roof pitch, the screen opening, the base flange — all cut, formed, and assembled by hand from 16oz cold-rolled copper to fit the chimney it's going on.

Installation

The Custom Curved Panel Copper Chimney Cap installs one of two ways depending on your chimney. Crown-sit places the cap directly on the chimney crown — no masonry work required. Side-mount uses a drip edge detail fastened through the side of the chimney masonry for a more permanent attachment. No pitch-matching, no friction-dependent flue clamps. The cap fastens to the chimney and stays put.

Material Options

16oz Copper — warm penny tone new, weathering through browns to a natural patina over years. The most durable and visually distinctive option. Riveted construction with copper rivets and solid brass mandrels.

Kynar-Coated Aluminum — factory-applied PVDF coating that holds color without fading, chalking, or peeling. Available in a wide range of Kynar colors including black, copper tone, bronze, and more. Riveted construction with stainless steel color-match rivets. A long-lasting, low-maintenance option for any color palette.

Galvalume — zinc-aluminum alloy coating over steel. Strong corrosion resistance at an accessible price point. Mill-finish appearance. Riveted construction with stainless steel color-match rivets.

About Archaic Metal

I've been fabricating custom architectural sheet metal in South Jersey since 1994 — 32 years working copper, Kynar aluminum, Galvalume, and stainless steel by hand. Every cap that leaves my shop I built myself. If you have questions about your chimney or which cap is the right fit, message me or call.
