Material For Full Size Caps
16 oz copper develops a natural verdigris patina over time. Kynar aluminum holds color indefinitely — any Kynar 500 color available. Galvalume is the most economical option. Stainless steel is ideal for coastal or high-corrosion environments.
Mount Type
Side mount — the drip edge wraps down the outside face of your chimney. Most common installation. Top mount flange — a flat flange lays on top of the chimney crown. Used when there is no vertical face to wrap. Not sure which you need? Top Mount vs Side Mount — Which One Do You Need?
Drip Edge Height
The drip edge is the vertical skirt that wraps the outside of your chimney. 3" is standard. Multi-Flue caps max out at 4½" — the tall screen panel limits the drip edge profile.
Screen Height
10" is standard for Multi-Flue caps — the taller screen accommodates multiple flue tiles. Choose 12"–24" if your flue tiles extend well above the crown. Copper and SS caps use stainless steel expanded mesh. Kynar and Galvalume caps use aluminum mesh.
Chimney Dimensions
Measure the outside of the chimney at the crown — not the flue tiles. Width is always the shorter dimension. Add at least ¼" to each measurement for fit. Example: 20" × 36" chimney → enter 20¼" × 36¼".
Width (shortest)
Length (longest)

Add minimum ¼" to each measurement. Width must be ≤ Length. Max size 60" × 120".

Shipping

Because copper is a premium material, we don't trust cardboard. Every Archaic Metal cap is secured inside a custom-built, heat-treated wood crate. This prevents dents and 'fret marks' during transit. Your order is fully insured and shipped via heavy-duty freight to ensure it arrives in 'New Penny' condition.

Please note: Large caps ship via LTL Freight. If your property cannot accommodate a full-sized 18-wheeler, please let us know so we can arrange a terminal pickup or a smaller delivery truck.

The Multi-Flue Cap

A multi-flue chimney cap covers the entire chimney crown in one piece — one cap over all your flue tiles, regardless of how many you have or how they're arranged. If your chimney has two or more flue tiles, this is the correct cap. I fabricate every multi-flue cap to your exact chimney dimensions from 18×18 up to 60×120, in my shop in Berlin, NJ.

Every cap is hand-fabricated to your exact dimensions — the same way it's been done in my shop since 1994.

What It Actually Does

A properly fitted cap does four things a hardware store cover doesn't: it protects the entire chimney crown (not just individual flue tile openings), it blocks animal entry with a heavy spark screen, it reduces wind-driven downdraft, and it contains embers from wood-burning fireplaces. The full-perimeter flange sits on the crown — crown repair runs $500–$3,000, and a cap that covers it correctly prevents all of it.

Built for Multiple Flues

The multi-flue cap uses a taller screen panel than a standard single-flue cap — 10" is the default, with options up to 24" — to clear multiple flue tiles that may sit at different heights above the crown. One cap, one installation, full coverage. The cross-brake lid sits on top and removes without tools for chimney sweeping or flue access.

Measure the full outside of your chimney at the crown — not individual flue tiles — and enter that single width and length in the calculator above. That's your cap size.

Cross-Brake Removable Lid

Every multi-flue cap includes a cross-brake structural lid standard — a single-piece lid with a built-in cross-brace for rigidity across the full span. On a multi-flue cap, the lid can be substantial — some span 4, 5, even 8 feet across — and the cross-brake keeps it flat and rigid under its own weight and under snow load. Locks down in place when installed and removes without tools for chimney sweeping or flue access. Standard on all materials and all sizes.

Material Options

16oz Copper — warm penny tone new, weathering through rich browns and eventually to the classic verdigris seen on historic buildings. No paint, no coating, no maintenance. The patina that develops is protection — not deterioration. Riveted construction with copper rivets and solid brass mandrels.

Kynar-Coated Aluminum — factory-applied PVDF coating, the same system used on commercial standing-seam roofing. Holds color without fading, chalking, or peeling for 25–50 years. Available in a wide range of architectural colors including black, charcoal, dark bronze, and more. Riveted with stainless steel color-match rivets.

304 Stainless Steel — 2B 304 24-gauge. Doesn't corrode, doesn't need coating, handles coastal salt air and harsh environments without issue. The performance choice when long-term durability matters more than aesthetics — 50–100+ year lifespan with zero maintenance.

Galvalume Plus — zinc-aluminum alloy coating over steel. Strong corrosion resistance at an accessible price point. Mill-finish appearance. Good for straightforward applications where color isn't the priority.

Installation

Two mounting options. Side-mount wraps a vertical drip edge around the outside of the chimney crown — full crown coverage, tighter seal against wind-driven rain, more permanent attachment. Top-mount flange places a flat flange on top of the crown surface — better choice when there's no vertical face to wrap.

Have a Wood-Framed Chase?

If your chimney sits on a prefab wood-framed chase rather than masonry, you may need a chase cover in addition to this cap. The cap mounts on top of the chase cover — it doesn't have a flat bottom with pre-cut holes for your flue pipe(s). If there's currently no metal cover on your chase top, you need both.
